Trolley Wheels Are Produced In Accordance With The Requirements Of The Job At Hand
When choosing a handcart that is suitable for the use you have in mind one of the considerations should be what material the trolley wheels are made out of. The reason that this is so important is that each of the wheels materials has different wear characteristics. For instance bronze can be harder wearing than some of the plastics used for wheels, while other materials have been specifically designed to be non-marking. Some trolley wheels are even specifically manufactured to offer a degree of bumper protection, extending the life of the trolley.
The trolley wheels that you choose are rated for the loads that they can bear, and the load bearing capacity of the trolleys varies wildly, from around 500 lbs to 5,000 lbs. Be sure to purchase a unit that will suit your particular needs perfectly. The non-marking varieties of wheels are usually made from rubber or polyurethane and have the added advantage of quietness. This can be a positive boon in enclosed environments like warehouse shelving where stress from noise levels is a major cause of downtime amongst the workforce. However these wheels have a significant downside. They require far more effort (sometimes up to three times more effort) to push than the equivalent hard wearing wheels, such as those constructed of bronze. Polyurethane is a remarkable material when used to manufacture trolley wheels. It is able to carry loads almost as heavy as those carried by cast iron wheels and is significantly lighter. It is also many times more abrasion resistant than rubber wheels.
If your trolley's wheels malfunction they may need to be replaced. Replacement wheels are available from a variety of manufacturers with some offering wheels that perform above the specifications of the wheels originally fitted to the trolley. If floor marking and the finished weight of the trolley are over riding concerns then you should consider micro cellular foam tires. These are manufactured from EVA and provide a cushioned ride while still being extremely durable.
The hard tread wheels are usually made from cast iron as this material is incredibly hard wearing (another option is bronze). The advantage of these wheels is that they make pushing the trolley much easier than would be the case with rubber or another softer material. There is however disadvantages to the harder materials such as cast iron. Wheels made from this material are far noisier than the wheels constructed of the softer material and they can cause extensive damage to flooring. So using them for yard carts might make sense as they will mostly be used outdoors. They also need almost constant lubrication. An alternative is wheels constructed of Nylon material. These wheels are self lubricating and the properties of Nylon mean that it is suitable for use both indoors and outdoors in even the most extreme weather conditions.
Whichever wheel type you choose with proper care and maintenance most trolleys will give many years, even decades of trouble free service. In the unlikely event that you have to replace trolley wheels always choose models from a reputable manufacturer that has a track record of producing quality trolley wheels.
